Sam recently attended the 18th BCA/CCG Intensive Teaching School in X-Ray Structure Analysis. The school was run virtually for the first time, and although it was a shame not to meet everyone in person, the course was a great success. Sam in particular benefitted from discussions over modelling disorder and will look to apply what he’s learnt in further refining crystallographic data from the highly disordered MOFs he’s been investigating. Sam also had the opportunity to pick the brains of Dr Oleg Dolomanov, Chief Technical Officer at OlexSys, who was of invaluable support in helping get to the bottom of some thorny crystallographic conundrums. The school lived up to its billing as “intense,” but it wasn’t all hard work, as Sam also managed to place second in the virtual pub quiz with his tutor group.
A big thanks to all the organisers, lecturers, tutors and fellow students for making the course such a success, even in these strange circumstances.
