Aly and Lucy attend NMSUM 2019 and Lucy wins BTM Willis Prize

Lucy receives her prize from Katharina Edkins (Queens University, Belfast)

This week, Lucy and Aly attended the Neutron and Muon Science & User Meeting (NMSUM19), which was held at the Warwick conference center in Coventry. The meeting started with a comfortable day dedicated for PhD students in which many interesting talks were presented. As for the main event, parallel sessions, focused on different applications of Neutron and Muon science ran, and Aly attended the Magnetism and Superconductivity sessions. Aly especially enjoyed Manila Songvilay’s talk on the S=3/2 spinon confinement in CaCr2O4 and Aiden Hindmarch’s presentation on spintronics. Before the conference dinner, a poster presentation session was held in which Aly presented a poster on the on the inelastic neutron scattering data of the S=1 system, BaMoP2O8.

This was a particularly exciting meeting for us as Lucy won the BTM Willis Prize 2019 for her outstanding contributions to materials discovery utilising neutron scattering and muon spectroscopy techniques! Congratulations Lucy!!
