This week, Lucy was privileged to attend the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Early Career Researcher Workshop in Manchester. The workshop was organised by the Physical Sciences theme team to enable early career academics to engage with the EPSRC and each other and to provide information on the EPSRC funding routes available at the early career stage. This included fellowships and, importantly, the recent New Investigator Award scheme. As well as plenty of helpful advice from the Physical Sciences team members and the strategic advisory team, the programme included two specially invited talks. Liverpool’s own Dr Anna Slater delivered an honest and encouraging account of how she successfully secured a Royal Society-EPSRC Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship, and Prof Tony Ryan from the University of Sheffield gave an inspiring insight into the importance of engaging society in scientific research.
If anyone would like further details of any of the topics covered at the workshop, please feel free to get in touch with Lucy.
